Tatum has expressed interest in the character that he's loved since he was a kid, and Lauren Shuler Donner thinks he'll be great. Those two things won't convince me he'll be good- remember all the people that tried to assure us the Wolverine films were going to be great?
Although, Tatum's love of the character will give me a small bit of hope he'll do it justice. I mean John Carter star Taylor Kitsch, who played Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, did a pretty good job in an awful film. Hey, Deadpool was decent in the first half of that movie, and Ryan Reynolds might be getting a much-needed R rated Deadpool film.
So, maybe, we'll get a Gambit film worth watching. One that accurately captures the thieves and assassins of the New Orleans underworld- we want a dark and gritty crime or heist film, not a mere action spectacle.
X-Men: Days of Future Past Premieres May 23.
X-Men: Apocalypse is slated for a May 27, 2016 release.
